Youth Improv Troupe - Coming in 2026!

Picture
No script required! Just show up ready to play!

Backdoor Theatre’s Youth Improv Troupe is a weekly, performance-based program for students in 7th–12th grade who want to build confidence, creativity, and collaboration through improvisation. Students will learn the fundamentals of short-form improv, practice thinking on their feet, and work together as an ensemble in a supportive, high-energy environment!

No prior experience required!
Just a willingness to participate and have fun!

Workshops and rehearsals will be led by Brendon Dalton and Courtney Cummings, who are both experienced improv performers and members of Backdoor Theatre's Improv Troupe! You can read more about our Youth Policies by clicking here!

Who Is This For?
  • Students currently in 7th–12th grade
  • All experience levels welcome
  • Great for performers, writers, or students curious about theatre
  • No theatre experience required

What Students Will Learn:
  • Short-form improv games and techniques
  • “Yes, and” collaboration skills
  • Confidence, creativity, and communication
  • Ensemble work and performance readiness
  • How to support fellow performers on and off the stage

Why Improv?
Improv builds confidence, adaptability, and teamwork - skills that extend far beyond the stage! Students learn how to take creative risks, listen actively, and trust themselves and their ensemble in a positive, encouraging environment!

Backdoor Theatre has had an established improv program for over 10 years, including an adult improv troupe, workshops, sold-out shows, and corporate trainings. In 2025, we also launched a brand-new military veteran improv troupe, The Tactical Jokers!

Brendon

Brendon has been involved in Improv on and off for over ten years. He started when he was just eleven years old and was part of a monthly youth Improv show for six years. While earning a BFA in Musical Theatre from Missouri State University, he spent another two years on a long-form Improv team. He and his wife spent three years in the Kansas City Metro area before moving to Wichita Falls to be close to family as they welcomed their first child. Not long after, he got involved with Backdoor Theatre. First performing in "The Grown-Ups" and then joining the cast of Backdoor's Improv Troupe as well as Backdoor's Board of Directors.
