Exciting Changes for Backdoor's Youth Programming!

** AS OF SEPTEMBER 2ND, WE ARE PUTTING A PAUSE ON OUR YOUTH TROUPE ** WE WILL HAVE MORE INFORMATION SOON!

Starting Fall 2025, Theatre School will be replaced by our new Youth Troupe! This program is for students ready for a bigger challenge and a deeper commitment to the theatre arts for those in 7th - 12th grade! Instead of short sessions focused on skill-building, Youth Troupe members will stay together for an entire season (September - May), working like a real theatre company from the first workshop to the final bow!

​WHY THE CHANGE?
We created the Youth Troupe because we want to give students:

• Advanced opportunities beyond a short-term class
• A stronger sense of community with peers from across the area
• ​​Hands-on experience running a production from start to finish — just like a professional theatre company
• Opportunities beyond acting for students interested in design, technical theatre, or backstage work

WHAT TO EXPECT
Over the year, the Youth Troupe will:

• Learn new skills in acting and technical theatre workshops
• Help choose and rehearse a fully staged non-musical production for January
• Perform that show for a public audience
• Create and present a year-end showcase featuring scenes, songs, or design/tech projects​

This program is designed for students who want to take their theatre experience to the next level, commit to a full season, and collaborate as a team both on and off stage.

WHY HAVE AUDITIONS?
Auditions help us:

• Build a dedicated group ready for a high level of teamwork
• Match students with the right opportunities - on stage, backstage, or in design
• See each student’s current skills and potential for growth

We’re not just looking for “the best actor.” We value potential, enthusiasm, and commitment in all areas of theatre!

TUITION FEE
If accepted, the tuition fee for the full year is only $150. Tuition waivers available! We don't want cost to keep anyone from participating!

COMMITMENT & EXPECTATIONS
Please review the Year Overview document below. Before auditioning, please make sure you can:

• Attend all mandatory rehearsals for the January production
• Be present for performance dates
• Participate in workshops and bi-weekly showcase pre
• ​Fully contribute to your role -  whether performing, designing, or completing a special project
• Show up prepared, on time, and respectful of your fellow troupe members’ time and creativity

This exciting shift is about growth! Creating a safe space where students can thrive artistically while gaining real-world theatre experience both on and off stage. We can’t wait to build this program together and see what our students accomplish!
