BACKDOOR THEATRE IS GOING GREEN!
Backdoor Theatre is going green! On Earth Day 2018, we began a new, massive fundraising campaign that will help us not only reduce our utility bills, but also lower our carbon footprint, and promote a more comfortable experience for our patrons.
Originally built in 1920, our facility served as the People’s Ice House. While the facility was built to be well-insulated, time has taken a toll. We estimate that 7% of our annual budget goes toward utilities, primarily due to problems that can and will be addressed. Our interior and exterior walls are in desperate need of repair. Much of our infrastructure is nearing 50-years-old and needs to be replaced. Our theatrical lights are outdated and inefficient. The challenges of heating and cooling an aging building are exacerbated by extreme North Texas temperatures. We plan to make much-needed repairs and energy upgrades while maintaining the historical integrity of our building. We envision this as a multi-phase project that will take no more than 5-years to complete. With your help, we can begin implementing a new, greener future at Backdoor Theatre.
