Backdoor Theatre - Youth Policies
The physical, mental, and emotional safety of everyone in our building, especially minors, is always top of mind. This is why we put the following protocols in place in 2021:
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN POLICY
There is nothing more important in our work than the health and safety of the children who visit our facility. It is vitally important that we protect our guests from any form of abuse. Employees will not yell at, threaten, shove, shake, or otherwise physically harm any child. In addition, we must vigilantly guard against any inappropriate sexual behavior to include language, suggestive remarks, or inappropriate touching.
In order to protect children, no employee will be alone with any child. Two adults (employees, volunteers, and/or group chaperones or parents) will be present at all times. If at any time an someone observes what they believe is inappropriate behavior toward a child, that person has an obligation to report it immediately. All reports of possible abuse will be investigated promptly and thoroughly.
Reports can be made to Backdoor Staff or Backdoor Board members. Any employees accused of inappropriate behavior will be placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the completion of an investigation. Any volunteer accused of inappropriate behavior will not be allowed on Backdoor Theatre property pending the completion of an investigation.
- All staff and members of the Board of Directors must pass criminal background checks. All adults working in Backdoor Youth Programs (Theatre School, Summer Theatre Academy, Summer Youth Musical) must pass a background check.
- For all youth programs, a minimum of two Backdoor Theatre representatives (staff and/or board members) are required to be present. No children are left alone with an adult.
- Any minor in Backdoor Theatre youth programs are required to check in and out with Backdoor Theatre Staff or show Stage Manager. After classes or rehearsals, Backdoor Theatre staff ensure that students are picked up by their appropriate guardians.
- For any production involving both minors and adults, completely separate changing areas and green rooms are provided for each group. Two Backdoor Theatre staff or Backdoor representatives are backstage at all times. Minors are required to check in and out with the show's Stage Manager.
